Discoveries about Bipolar Disorders genetics – Dr. Colleen McClung

Bipolar disorder is a life-wrenching condition. Although this fairly common mood disorder, with its manic highs and depressed lows, has received a lot of popular attention, thanks to movies like Silver Linings Playbook and memoirs like Kay Jamison’s An Unquiet Mind, comparatively little scientific study has gone into how to treat it up until now. However, one scientist, Colleen McClung, PhD of the University of Pittsburgh, has been working hard on it in recent years. Since winning the One Mind / Johnson & Johnson Rising Star Award in 2012, she has made newsworthy discoveries about the disease’s genetic basis that may soon help patients manage their moods. And today through Friday, May 6, she is back on Brain Waves to tell us about them.

Dr. McClung’s interview and public Q&A aired live on Google+ on Wednesday, May 4 at noon Pacific time. The Q&A period on this page lasted from May 4 to May 6, 2016 and is now closed. Learn more about Dr. McClung’s research.
