Dr. Ignacio Saez
The Human Neurophysiology Lab under Dr. Saez is pioneering intracranial recordings to map human decision-making circuits in real time, informing novel treatments for depression.
Dr. Ignacio Saez is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience, Neurosurgery, and Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he directs the Human Neurophysiology Laboratory. His research explores how interactions between brain regions and neurotransmitter systems shape human decision-making, using intracranial electrophysiology in neurosurgical patients to study prefrontal and subcortical circuits in real time. Dr. Saez earned his Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and completed postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley and Virginia Tech. His work aims to inform new neurotherapeutic strategies for psychiatric conditions such as depression.
