Dr. Joshua A. Gordon is Chair of Psychiatry at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Executive Director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and Psychiatrist-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia. A psychiatrist and neuroscientist, he previously served eight years as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, where he advanced precision medicine approaches, strengthened suicide prevention research, and addressed mental health disparities. Dr. Gordon earned his M.D./Ph.D. from UCSF, completed residency and research fellowship training at Columbia, and has led influential work on how genetic mutations shape neural activity in psychiatric disorders. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, his honors include the BBRF Distinguished Investigator Grant and the ACNP Joel Elkes Research Award.
