Developing Safer Mood Stabilizers: Dr. Jean-Martin Beaulieu

For individuals living with bipolar disorder who deal with lithium’s sometimes troublesome side effects, safer mood stabilizing drugs could prove a godsend.  Jean-Martin Beaulieu, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Laval University, has won the 2014 One Mind / Johnson & Johnson Rising Star Translational Research Award. With his award, he aims to develop safer, targeted mood stabilizing drugs by testing, in cell culture and in mice, small molecules which his past research suggests might replicate the therapeutic effect of lithium with minimal side effect.

Watch Dr. Beaulieu’s interview below. Comments are now closed. After a break in September, I will see you on Brain Waves in October!

Have fun! -Brandon
