Brain Waves Video Interviews

Leading Student Mental Health Advocacy: Danny Lee

When I (Brandon) first developed schizophrenia, I was a college sophomore. In fact, in the general population, psychiatric illness tends to strike just as a young person is emerging into adulthood. In 1990, there were not many social resources in my college community to help me cope. However, I am happy for the sake of young people developing mental illness today to see that picture changing. Organizations such as USC’s Free Minds United offer college students outlets to express their experiences with mental illness in an open, welcoming environment. This month on Brain Waves I feature Danny Lee, a brave USC student who co-founded Free Minds United. Danny shares what inspired him to help his community in this way, how he has done it, and what impact Free Minds has had.
