One Mind Welcomes Two New Members to Its Board of Directors

New Directors Include Steven Paul, Founder and Board Chair at Seaport Therapeutics and Venture Partner at Third Rock Ventures, and Annette Smith, Retired Tax Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), and formerly at the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of Treasury.
One Mind is thrilled to announce the addition of two esteemed professionals and passionate mental health advocates, Steven Paul, MD and Annette Smith, to the organization’s board of directors, effective immediately.

As board members, Paul and Smith will bring invaluable insight and perspective to the execution of One Mind’s strategic vision, offering guidance across our flagship programs: the One Mind Rising Star Academy, which cultivates the next generation of scientific leaders through investment in groundbreaking research (see Rising Star Awards); the One Mind Accelerator, which empowers bold, determined founders of early-stage startups with the training and networks needed to build category-defining companies that transform the lives of those facing mental health challenges; One Mind at Work, which equips leaders around the globe to embed proven mental health practices into the fabric of their organizations; and the One Mind Lived Experience Initiative, which grounds high-impact mental health solutions in the vital insights and expertise of those who with lived experience. Introducing Our Newest Board Members

Steven M. Paul, MD, is a neuroscientist, psychiatrist, and biopharmaceutical executive with over 40 years of experience in neuroscience, molecular neuropharmacology, and CNS drug development. He is Founder and Chair of the Board of Seaport Therapeutics and Rapport Therapeutics, Co-Founder and board member of Syremis Therapeutics, and a Venture Partner at Third Rock Ventures. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Karuna Therapeutics (now part of Bristol Myers Squibb) and co-founded Sage Therapeutics and Voyager Therapeutics. Dr. Paul has held major academic and government roles, including Founding Director of the Appel Alzheimer’s Disease Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Scientific Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, and is currently a professor of neurology and psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He spent 17 years at Eli Lilly and Company, where he led global R&D as Executive Vice President and President of Lilly Research Laboratories. A prolific author with over 600 publications, he is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Chair of the Foundation for the NIH, and a board member of Scripps Research; he earned his BS, MS, and MD from Tulane University School of Medicine.

Annette B. Smith is a retired PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) tax partner with a passion for mental health advocacy. She spent 20 years as a tax partner in PwC’s Washington National Tax Services (WNTS) practice where she consulted on complex tax accounting method and period issues for large multinational corporations. Annette also led the Federal Tax Services practice at PwC prior to her retirement in 2020. Prior to her time in PwC ‘s WNTS practice she worked in the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of Treasury, most recently as Deputy to the Tax Legislative Counsel. In that role she shared responsibility for the development, analysis and implementation of federal tax policy through legislative initiatives, regulations, revenue rulings, revenue procedures and other types of published guidance. She received the Secretary of Treasury’s Honor Award for her work. Annette received her MSBA (Taxation) and BSBA (Accounting), Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Cincinnati.

Advancing Leadership, Strengthening Impact
In addition to adding two new members, existing board member Tanisha Carino was elected to the position of Vice Chair of the Board. In this new role, Carino will work closely with Board leadership to help guide One Mind’s strategic priorities, strengthen governance, and support the continued growth and impact of its programs. Her leadership will be instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission and ensuring alignment across its expanding portfolio of initiatives.
As we welcome two new members, we also extend our deepest gratitude to two departing board members who have contributed invaluable insight and leadership over the years. One Mind sincerely thanks Gary Gottlieb and Russ Deyo for their dedicated service and lasting impact during their time on the Board of Directors.
Looking ahead, our Board remains focused on the opportunities before us as we prepare for a series of impactful One Mind events in the months ahead. These include the closing week of the One Mind Accelerator 2026 program, taking place Monday, April 13 through Wednesday, April 15 in Menlo Park, CA; the 10th Annual One Mind at Work Global Forum, to be held Monday, May 18 through Wednesday, May 20 in Napa, CA; and the 32nd One Mind Music Festival, our flagship annual fundraising event, returning to Staglin Family Vineyard in Rutherford, CA on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Together, these gatherings reflect our continued commitment to advancing innovation, collaboration, and impact across the mental health ecosystem.
