Jules Silverman
Hello, my name is Jules, and I am what is called a native New Yorker. As a long-time resident and visual arts major at Columbia, I get to indulge my two passions everyday: I walk everywhere absorbing all the activity that surrounds me, and I create art using all types of media. Both of these activities help to keep me physically healthy and mentally balanced.
My lived experience comes from channeling my journey with schizoaffective disorder into my creative process. I render my hallucinations and delusions in various art styles ranging from classic realism to contemporary abstract. My favorite artists are Magritte and Adelaide Labille Guiard.
I have a third passion: breaking the stigma that comes with a serious mental illness. I have been featured on several platforms and on the Columbia Doctors’ website to talk about the full, productive life people with mental illness live. I am very glad to be a member of the One Mind Community Advisory Network because I want to make a positive difference in our community.
Using my art and my studies, I am working for greater understanding, acceptance and appreciation of the talents and capabilities of neurodivergent people.
