
Linda Sibio
Linda Sibio was diagnosed with schizophrenia while studying painting at Ohio University where she earned her BFA in 1977. In the 1980s, she studied acting in Hollywood with Eric Morris, and performance with Rachel Rosenthal. She has received over 20 grants and awards including a Lannan Foundation Grant, a Rockefeller MAP Fund Award, Wynn Newhouse Award, and Tree of Life Award. She has performed at numerous venues including the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), Franklin Furnace (New York), and Highways Performance Space (Los Angeles). Solo exhibitions of her art have been held at Track 16 Gallery (Los Angeles) and Andrew Edlin Gallery (New York). Her latest body of paintings titled Economics of Suffering: Part IV was featured in a 2023 solo exhibition at Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles.
Sibio is the founder of Bezerk Productions, a nonprofit organization that educates the public on the interdisciplinary art of persons with severe mental challenges and provides art workshops for this disadvantaged and underserved population. She is the originator of the Cracked Eggs workshops that use a set of interdisciplinary art exercises to teach art to the mentally challenged, and The Insanity Principle workshops. She is also the author of a yet to be published book, “Reflections in a Broken Mirror,” about her many years of community work with marginalized populations on skid row in Los Angeles. Sibio teaches both performance and visual art privately, in workshop settings and online throughout the U.S. and internationally. She lives and works in Joshua Tree, CA.
