Shari Staglin

Co-Founder & Director

For more than 40 years, Shari, with her husband Garen, has dedicated herself to giving back. Their focus has been on brain health research, resulting from their son Brandon’s early onset of schizophrenia in 1990. In addition, Shari has guided Staglin Family Vineyard as CEO, since she and Garen purchased it in 1985, creating world-class ultra-premium wines. The Vineyard’s motto is “great wine for great causes” and in the last 35 years, causes they have chaired or donations from their wines have generated more than $1.2 billion. Shari is co-founder of ONE MIND, co-founder and trustee emeritus of Bring Change2Mind, and director emeritus of the UCLA Foundation Board. Through Staglins’ Music Festival for Brain Health at the vineyard, over $600 million for brain health research has been raised. The Staglin property has recently been proclaimed as the elite vineyard in Rutherford, Napa Valley. In the last 10 years, their charitable wine auction lots and leadership of events have generated over $39 million in proceeds, more for charity than any other vintner from any vineyard in the world. In 2018, Shari and Garen were awarded the Research America Gund Award, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award and the UCLA Dickson Alumni of the Year Award. Shari holds a BA, 1966 from UCLA and an MPA, 1975 from NYU. She also did extensive graduate work in Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis in the late 1980s.
