At the invitation of Dr. Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu’s Heartfulness Lab at The Laurie J. Girand Center for Biomedical Ethics, this workshop will bring together Japanese high school students to explore mental health and well-being as they look toward their working lives. Building on the Heartfulness themes of purpose, reflection, acceptance, and transformation, the session will encourage students to think about the move from school into early career and what it means to care for themselves along the way.

September 4, 2026 | Mental Health Support for Japanese Expatriates and Their Families

This seminar will advance mental health support for Japanese expatriates, their families, and locally hired team members. The session will explore the unique challenges of working across countries and workplaces, including work-related stress, language barriers, and the adjustments that come with international assignments, and will share practical approaches to stress management and the role of organizational support.

October 9, 2026 | Japanese Expatriates and Their Families’ Mental Health

Lecture | Hosted by Yui Global Net
Location: Tokyo, Japan

This lecture, delivered to Yui Global Net’s regular members’ meeting, will explore the mental health and well-being of Japanese expatriates and the families who move with them. The session will look at the distinct pressures of life abroad, including adjustment stress, language and cultural barriers, isolation, and the experiences of accompanying spouses and children, and will consider how companies and communities can better care for expatriate families. Drawing on both research and lived experience, it will share practical ways to support one’s own mental health and reinforce the message that reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but a form of strength. A short talk will be followed by discussion with participants on how to strengthen support for expatriate families.

October 28, 2026 | Workforce Mental Health for Japanese Subsidiaries in the U.S.

Held near World Mental Health Day, this inaugural U.S. convening of the U.S.-Japan Workplace Mental Health and Well-being Coalition brings together Japanese corporate leaders in the New York area to advance workforce mental health and well-being. The evening will translate science into practical strategies that support Japanese expatriates, their families, and locally hired employees, and will foster dialogue and collaboration across the Japanese business community. This event is made possible through the generous support of the J.C.C. Fund.
