A message from One Mind President, Brandon Staglin regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic:
Hello friends,
With the global pandemic of COVID-19 hitting home in the U.S., you may, like me, be feeling scared and rattled. Although it may seem like the world has gone awry, we can maintain our personal well-being. Self-care is especially important for those who, like me, live with mental health challenges. Here are my thoughts and actions for coping:
Although everyone must use extra care during this crisis, everyone has their own life to continue living.
First, I have checked on my friends throughout the U.S. Having verified they are all OK, I feel relief.
I have continued to pursue the hobbies I love. Yesterday I took a break from work mid-day to meditate, which brought me some calm and stability.
Exercise has always helped me stay on an even keel, and now is no exception. This morning I lifted weights, getting my blood moving and releasing endorphins. Now I feel calm and energized.
I have continued to do my job at One Mind. My work needs me, and is meaningful to me. When I am working, my mind is on my work.
I have avoided too much contact with the news media. I check the news once or twice daily, then move on. Instead of listening to only news on the radio, I also listen to meaningful music I like.
I have continued to maintain my social activity. Knowing about the pandemic has actually increased my appreciation for the people I love. I have spent quality time with the family around me, and have been able to keep in touch with other loved ones and friends through calls and video chats. We still talk about things that matter to us, and our everyday lives. This has strengthened me.
If you have no one to talk to, reach out to someone. We are all in this together, and these friendly interactions create a lift that lasts.
And, know that there are resources that anyone can access if you ever feel really down. The national in-crisis support line is at 800-273-TALK (8255). The Crisis Text Line is at 741741.
If you are new to working remotely and are feeling over anxious or strained, be sure to read our recent workplace mental health blog post on Forbes.com.
Stay safe, and stay connected. Together we are strong.
