As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the One Mind Music Festival for Brain Health, we invite you to join us in reflecting on three decades filled with remarkable talent, impactful performances, and the relentless pursuit of mental health research and awareness. This cornerstone event for One Mind has not only showcased incredible musical acts but also shone as a beacon of hope and collaboration in the mental health community.
The Evolution of a Vision
In the early days of mental health research, professionals often worked in silos, hesitant to share their findings. This fragmented approach hindered progress and stifled innovation. One Mind was founded to challenge this status quo by fostering collaboration among scientists, clinicians, and government leaders. Today, the organization stands as a testament to the power of unity and shared purpose. As Michael Franti eloquently put it, “They’ve given an opportunity for people to do the best thing in the world to achieve any impossibility, which is to collaborate.”
A Tribute to Talent
Over the years, the One Mind Music Festival for Brain Health has hosted a diverse array of artists, each bringing their unique voice and passion to the cause. From the soulful melodies of Jewel to powerful performances by Jennifer Hudson and Melissa Ethridge, the festival has been a gathering place for artists who believe in the power of music to heal and inspire.
One of the most memorable performances was by ONEREPUBLIC in 2021, whose electrifying set left the crowd in awe. The legendary Sheryl Crow brought her iconic hits to life at the 25th festival in 2019, captivating audiences with her timeless music. The festival also saw a poignant virtual performance by Arturo Sandoval in 2020, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of One Mind in the face of global challenges.
Jewel, who performed in 2014 and 2022, expressed her deep connection to the cause: “Mental health is very close to my heart and I’ve always admired the work that One Mind does. So, I’m very proud to be here with One Mind and support the work that they do.”
These performances have not only entertained but also galvanized support for groundbreaking mental health research. The festival is a vivid reminder of the vital role that music and the arts play in our emotional and psychological well-being. As Melissa Ethridge, a 2015 Music Festival performer, shared, “I found in my career after 25 years, there’s some work that I get that’s for a cause and I like to be very mindful of what I lend my voice to. And so, One Mind really interested me because I think that a lot of our future medicine will come from understanding the brain.”
The Heart of the Festival
At its core, the One Mind Music Festival for Brain Health is about more than just music—it’s about community, compassion, and commitment to a cause. Attendees and performers alike have consistently highlighted the festival’s unique spirit of generosity and solidarity. Jennifer Hudson, a performer at the 2018 Music Festival, shared, “It’s such an amazing cause. Everything is about the heart and what comes from the heart. The heart receives. So, to have one heart of all of these beautiful people that is on one accord to make a difference in the world for somebody else, it’s not too often we think of others, but when you set yourself aside to take the time to care about somebody else, to make a difference in someone else’s life, it’s absolutely nothing more beautiful.”
Looking Forward
As we mark this 30-year milestone, we look forward to continuing this legacy of excellence and impact. The festival has grown into a significant event that not only electrifies audiences with top-tier musical talent but also raises crucial funds for mental health research and innovation. With each performance and each donation, we move closer to our goal of healthy brains for all.
