One Mind at Work U.S.-Japan Coalition
Lecture | Hosted by Yui Global Net
Location: Tokyo, Japan
This lecture, delivered to Yui Global Net’s regular members’ meeting, will explore the mental health and well-being of Japanese expatriates and the families who move with them. The session will look at the distinct pressures of life abroad, including adjustment stress, language and cultural barriers, isolation, and the experiences of accompanying spouses and children, and will consider how companies and communities can better care for expatriate families. Drawing on both research and lived experience, it will share practical ways to support one’s own mental health and reinforce the message that reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but a form of strength. A short talk will be followed by discussion with participants on how to strengthen support for expatriate families.
Virtual Seminar | Hosted by Yui Global Net & Board & Beyond
Held on World Mental Health Day as part of Yui Fes 2026, Yui Global Net’s annual festival, this Japanese-language seminar will explore the realities of accompanying a spouse on an overseas assignment through three perspectives: the expatriate partner’s career, children’s emotional well-being, and what companies can do. Drawing on research, professional practice, and the speakers’ own lived experiences of life abroad, the session will offer practical guidance for expatriate families navigating relocation and for the organizations that send them, and will reinforce that an assignment abroad is a transition the whole family makes together.
