One Mind at Work

Events and Engagements

Across the United States and Japan, we convene, co-host, and speak at events with corporations, universities, community organizations, and chambers of commerce. Through keynotes, panels, symposia, and high-level roundtables, we explore timely and relevant topics tailored to each audience.

I have spent my career making the case that investing in people is Japan’s greatest growth strategy. Mental health and well-being are the next frontier of that thesis. When companies support employees’ mental health and well-being, they are able to innovate more, retain talent longer, and perform better. One Mind at Work’s U.S.-Japan Coalition is helping Japanese companies, both in Japan and in the U.S., do just that. This is exactly the kind of initiative Japanese businesses need right now.

My commitment to mental health is both professional and personal. Across decades of clinical practice and global advocacy, I have seen that real progress comes when we develop mental health care scientifically and humanely, and when we widen its role in every part of society, including the workplace. One Mind at Work’s U.S.-Japan Coalition does exactly this for the workers and families who connect our two countries, bringing rigorous science together with genuine care for people navigating life across cultures. The workplace is where mental health care must go next, and this Coalition is showing the way.

Tsuyoshi Akiyama, MD
Secretary General, The World Federation of Mental Health

Having led organizations in both Japan and the United States, I have seen firsthand the toll workplace stress takes—and the resilience good support restores. Taking care of mental health is not just about risk management; it is a fundamental human responsibility and one of the smartest retention strategies an employer has. Most organizations are still reacting to burnout instead of preventing it. One Mind at Work’s U.S.-Japan Coalition is giving leaders the blueprint to finally get proactive, and the timing could not be more urgent.
